To guard against any future enterprises, similar to that by which Brigadier Mac In- tosh had effected the passage of the Frith of Forth, that estuary had been so filled with King's-ships, that Mac Intosh's communications with the Earl of Mar at Perth were completely cut off, whilstthe Dukeof Argyle's army equally guarded the pass of Stirlingand the heads of Forth.
