Leaving Cold Sassy is the follow-up book to Cold Sassy Tree, by Olive Ann Burns.
This book is a combination of Mrs. Burn's unfinished sequel to Cold Sassy Tree, notes regarding the sequel and Mrs. Burn's life and final days.
The novel part of the book reads more like a romance. I did not find any great, enduring message in it, like I did in Cold Sassy Tree.
I brought this book because I loved Cold Sassy Tree so much that I wanted to read more. I was so disappointed I did not even finish this book.
I would recommend that you save your time and not read this book. A great sequel to Cold Sassy Tree, written by Olive Ann Burns is just not to be.

What was a surprise to me in this book was half of it was about Olive Ann Burns' own life, most of which I knew nothing about. What a brave, selfless person she was! I recommend the book not only to read about the unfinished book she wrote, but mostly about her.

Short sequel to Cold Sassy Tree since the author died of cancer before she could finish the book. Also contains her notes for ideas for the rest of the book and her struggle with her disease.

I loved Cold Sassy Tree, and while Olive Ann Burns was not able to complete this sequel, it gives one much food for thought and an interesting insight into the author's own life.
This is an absolutely great book. It is a touching story of where Cold Sassy Tree left off.
The book is interesting as a biography of Olive Ann Burns and as a chronicle of a writer's task. However, as a sequel to Cold Sassy Tree, it is tantalizing, but unsatisfying.

The first book "Cold Sassy Tree" was one of the best books I have ever read. While I loved hearing more about Will and his family in this book, I was a little disappointed. It was a little hard to follow and it seemed like Will's character was changed in some way. It was still a good story but it didn't have the same feeling that the first book had.
As someone who loved Cold Sassy Tree, I was ... underwhelmed ... by the story part of this book.
And by "I was underwhelmed," I mean I didn't like it. At all.
It seemed much more shallow than CST, and I couldn't quite believe that some of the characters (namely, Will Tweedy and Papa) would act as they did. And the thing of Will and Sampson calling one another "Uncle" really annoyed me for some reason.
So why did I rate this as highly as I did? Well, for as little as I enjoyed Olive Ann Burns' writing here, the second half or so of the book is a biography of Burns by her editor, and that section was very interesting -- I hadn't even known there had been a TV movie made of the first book! If you're a big fan of CST, between the unfinished part of the novel (bad though it is) and the biography, it's probably worth it to get this.

unforgettable story of a Georgia town at the turn of the century
Perhaps the oddest book I've ever read. The first half consists of the beginning of a sequel to "Cold Sassy Tree", left unfinished when Burns died; the second half is a biography of the author, written by her editor and friend.
The sequel to "Cold Sassy Tree" - if you haven't read it already, see if you can get both of them at the same time!!
