This is the third in a series of three, but you don't need to have read the previous two (though it helps.) The first two books are character builders and you get to like both Saul and Drew. Saul from "The Brotherhood of The Rose" and Drew from "The Fraternity of the Stone" are part of this espionage thriller. Fast-paced, loaded with action, toss in Nazis, crossing and double crossing... if you liked the Bourne series, this is for you.

this book took the surviving heroes of 2 of my favorite david morrell novels: brotherhood of the rose and fraternity of the stone. this was so good. fast paced, exciting. i loved it.

This is a good book, despite the fact that it is somewhat obscure and convoluted.
David Morrell has pulled the Catholic church, Hitler and the Nazis, the Nazi " bell", the Holocaust, and a couple of clueless Americans into a story of intrigue and misdirection. You won't know what the book is about until you have read it to the end.
I am not enough of a history expert to know how much of this story is historically correct, but Morrell usually bases his stories in fact.
This book is different from many of the books written by the creator of Rambo. It is, however, a good read.
