Leaf & Tree Guide (Backyard Explorer)
Leaf Tree Guide - Backyard Explorer
Author: Rona Beame, Lionel Kalish (Illustrator)
Kids are born nature detectives, and the backyard explorer kit brings the joy and adventure of discovery to what kids do naturally. Comprising the Tree & Leaf Guide, a Leaf Collecting Album, and a see-through heavy plastic collecting envelope, it's the young naturalist's complete tree primer. The fully illustrated Tree & Leaf...  more »shows examples of all the major leaf and needle shapes, and lists the common trees they match up with. It explains how to press leaves and mount them in the Leaf Collecting Album. With leaf and tree projects for all year round, the backyard explorer kit is a wonderful introduction to the yard, the park, or the woods.

I liked this book, it was fantastic for not only teaching children about different kinds of trees and their leaves but getting them outdoors and enjoying nature. Definately a hands on learning set.
There is a Leaf and tree guide that tells everything about trees, how to collect leaves and dried fruits berries and seeds, maps about where different trees are in the U.S. It also has many projects to make with their finds. A few are leaf crowns, bark rubbings, collages, leaf cards and bookmarks and more. Also how to press and preserve leaves for you collection.
I like the books because of how much information it covered simply and in an interesting way.
There is also a leaf collecting album with one sided pages with the shapes of the leaves printed on the page to make identifying and placing easy. and a place to put the type of tree, where it was found and the date. This is held together with brads so you can take the pages out and work on them.
A very nice set of books and something more for you to get a child involved in something other than tv and computer games. Great for homeschoolers or anyone that wants to spend quality time with their children. A plus from me!
