Just to let you know this story happens at the same time and is somewhat related to Isabelle and Malachi's story from "Tied With A Bow."
I can't believe this book was such a disappointment. I usually love the Breed series. The book does get much better towards the last few chapters but the first 75% was really slow and dragged.
First of all the writing wasn't up to par to Leigh's usual talents. It was disjointed and confusing. There were quite a bit of errors and repeated phrases or ideas. Sometimes I had to read a sentence several times to try to decipher what Leigh was trying to get across.
Second, the characters changed. From the other books I always thought Lawe and Rule were a little bit more fun and kind of jokers. They were my favorite characters. Unfortunately they were not fun at all here. There were no clever dialogue or anything playful. Lawe was just a selfish, alpha male who would rather cage his mate than really appreciate her for who she is. He reminded me more of Dash in "Elizabeth's Wolf."
Third, 75% of the book was Lawe not being able to accept Diane for who she is and arguments after arguments about the same thing. It got old really quick. It would have been nice if Leigh would have had them working together much earlier in the book and spend some time on the Gideon/three missing breed plot. Surprisingly I didn't mind Diane as much as I really didn't like Lawe. I can relate to where she was coming from more. As a result, the sex scenes seemed forced and when they decided "loved" each other, it wasn't believeable at all. Why would Diane love someone who doesn't even see her? And why would Lawe love someone he wants to change so badly?
Again the last 25% of the book was much better and moved quicker. I am also intrigued to see who Rule gets paired up with because she isn't supposed to be a fighter. Of course I would also love Gideon's story.
So if you are into the Breed series, yes you should read it if you can get it from a library but I wouldn't spend a credit or any real money on it. Unfortunately I did.
