This is Book 4 of the Neverwinter series.
This book is certainly going to bring some mixed reviews. It is hard to write a spoiler-free review (especially with this ending!) but I will do my best.
In summary: I really liked it. Of all the Drizzt books that RAS has written since he moved into the Transitions series, this one was the best. Drizzt has finally rediscovered who he is as a character. I was completely satisfied with the way that Drizzt handled his relationship with Dahlia in the end, although I cannot say the same for her. I never really liked her much, and her final behavior justified my feelings. With everything that she has been through of late, I would have expected her to show more personal growth. Obviously she did not.
Artemis Entreri has been one of the most interesting characters in this series, and without him I don't know if I would have been able to continue reading. RAS was at his best when he was writing about the original Companions. Once that ended, he was left with replacement characters that never seemed to live up to the originals. Drizzt kept trying to create a new set of Companions, but the group was never cohesive and I never really connected with them as a reader.
I don't know what RAS has in store for future novels (or if there will even be any more, based on this ending). If this is the end, then so be it. For me, this series has been dying by degrees with every new book. It showed a burst of promise in the end, but I don't know yet if that was a last gasp or the dawn of a new beginning...
