Last Night's Scandal is part of Loretta Chase's Carsington series. Looking up information on this series to write this review, I have come to realize I might have missed out. I read the first book Lord Perfect. A lot of people raved about that book. I, on the other hand, wasn't too crazy about the main characters and instead found myself completely wrapped up in the escapades of the two children, Olivia and Peregrine. Then I caught wind that Ms. Chase had plans to write Olivia and Peregrines story and my interest was piqued. I put Last Night's Scandal on the wish list. But come to find out, there are more books in the series that span the time between Mr. Perfect and Last Night's Scandal. I might have missed out on other scenes involving Olivia and Peregrine!

Last Night's Scandal is such an enjoyable, fun read. There is nothing overtly heavy emotionally about this book. The characters Olivia and Peregrine are great and in the story they have been long time friends who have corresponded through letters while Peregrine was in Egypt. Olivia writes the Best Letters and has quite an ADVENTUROUS side to her nature. Peregrine on the other hand is logical and steadfast. They both fight their attraction for each other for fear that it will ruin their friendship. They know that their personalities are too different and that they won't be able to provide the other with what they need. Its wonderful to see them discover just how much they mean to each other.

So, while Peregrine and Olivia are fighting their attraction or maybe I should say discovering it, they are also putting to rights a haunted castle in Scotland. The mystery is not serious at all. I think it was rather hokey and fun. I really don't have any complaints. This book lived up to my expectations. If you are in the mood for something cheerful and light, look no further.

Quite a whimsical tale from Loretta Chase. I enjoyed it, yes, but couldn't help thinking that it was trying too hard to be a Julia Quinn romp.

I almost disliked the heroine for the first third of the book, but Olivia's character eventually shone through. The mystery was fun, the treasure hunt "interuptus" was entertaining ... in the end, all was quite satisfying! Looking back I wish I had been able to disassociate the two writing styles while reading through the book.

Truly, read and enjoy. This is much better than the usual historical romance fare. Although, no one can touch Julia Quinn's penchant for hysterical historical romance, this is still loads of fun!

I like Loretta Chase's books even if I found some are a bit slow at the beginning and sometime a bit formulaic, are nevertheless an enjoyable read for lovers of romance.

Her writing is quite good, witty and humorous without being pretentious, her heroes and heroines likeable quite human without being too modern, the background history believable, the sensual scenes are tasteful and part of the story without becoming the story.

"Last Night's Scandal " has been my favorite so far, but you'll have to read "Lord Perfect" first to truly appreciate it.

Last Night's Scandal This is the story, of Peregrine Dalmay Earl Lisle and Lady Olivia Wingate-Carsington, whom we first meet in Lord Perfect as children. They just called to have their own story. Loretta Chase delivers it in Last Night Scandal.

Chase writes such endearing characters and the stand outs in this book are the two irrepressible Dowagers, who drink whiskey, ogle footmen and talk quite openly of their long list of lovers and adventures, they are hysterical.

There are no surprises Peregrine and Olive are destined to be together but getting there is complicated by Olivia's outrageous behavior and scandals which follow her around as she blithely wreaks havoc on poor staid Peregrines life. He knows Olivia is dangerous to his well ordered life, and the path he wants to travel, but is powerless to resist her. The sexual chemistry sizzles and I had a great time reading this.

You need to start reading Chase, if you are a fan of Kleypas, Quinn, and Laurens. Try starting at the beginning of the Carsington series--Miss Wonderful. SO refreshing to read a book where the protagonists have a sense of humor. I highly recommend: Lion's Daughter, Captives of the Night, Lord of Scoundrels and (my favorite) The Last Hellion. Of her older books, Knave's Wager is the best.
