This is my second Baldacci book. The first was split second which I had some reservations about the author cheating by withholding information the main character discovered. Since the critics didn't think that was Baldacci's best work, I decided to give the author another chance.
Right up to page 488, I was glad I did. Last Man Standing is psychologically riveting with lots of good action and strong characters and keeps you guessing about who the real villains are and what their motives might be. I didn't even mind too much that the author used a couple of cheap "unknown to her" tricks to up the tension. I didn't mind to terribly much when the villains and their motives are played out in a scene that's only one step removed from them babbling to each other about the whys and wherefores.
SPOILER ALERT * What I can't cope with is when the 10 year old boy who was kidnapped early on suddenly becomes a master lock pick and escape artist as soon as the hero's psychiatrist joins him in captivity, thereby rescuing himself and her at the most convenient moment for the plot.
I'm sure other readers will overlook these things, accepting Baldacci's ability to build tension and keep readers wondering as an adequate trade off for these things that I find disappointing in such a promising author, but I just don't see myself reading anything more from him.

David Baldacci is one of my favorite authors, and this book is one of his best! 5 STARS!!

Outstanding book! This was my second Baldacci read (Absolute Power was 1st), and I am hooked. His action sequences are definately Clancy-like in their depth and excitment, while the story line takes you through some very rich characters and twists. If you enjoy a good police drama, you will love it.
This is the story of an FBI agent who is framed for the deaths of his crew. With the help of a few that support and believe in him he proves he was not at fault and uncovers the person responsible. This was a very good story and it would be a 5 except I think the behavior of his psychiatrist - the female one - was not quite believable at times.
David Balducci fans ....here's another one!
A special teams member trying to right wrongs...can he do it?
a thriller- couldn't put it down
Lots of twists and turns. Typical Baldacci.

David Baldacci is a superb author. This is a suspensful/thriller page by page right up to the end of the book.

Excellent book. I couldn't put it down and read the last few chapters in one sitting.

GREAT story. Starts a little slow, but soon you are hooked and can't wait to see what happens to Web and his team. Great listening.
Great Book! I like all his books
Really liked this one. First one of Baldacci's that I can remember reading. Long enough and with enough plot twists to make a great book for commuting. Made me look forward to Boston traffic so as to have more time to listen.
Didn't even finish; author's writing is too predictable now and not entertaining or exciting

I love David Baldacci's books!! This one is no exception. Web London is a member of the FBI's HRT [Hostage Rescue Team] and has proven his bravery time and again. Then the unthinkable happens...during a rescue mission, Web freezes up and is unable to advance with the rest of his team. As a result he watches helplessly as they are all gunned down in an ambush, 6 brave men, all his friends die before his eyes. When he is able to move he takes out the gun emplacements single-handedly. But it's too late to save the others, and he questions himself, why did he freeze? What happened to him? Not only does he question himself, but the FBI wants answers, too. The plot thickens as Web finds links to that mission with another one involving a white supremist group in which a 10-year-old hostage was killed. Lots of twists and turns, drug dealers, revenge, it's got it all!! Not a quick read, but definitely one I recommend.
Great book

A great read by Baldacci - you feel sympathy and frustration with the main character. You feel as if you have been drawn into the countryside and plot line. A book that makes you feel as if you're there is a great book in my mind!

This is a psychological thriller about a man desperate to find answers from the secret terrors he has kept from himself to his unbearable guilt. He was a point man of the Hostage Rescue Team and met a high-tech, custom designed ambush that killed everyone around him.
A fast paced novel that leaves you guessing what the outcome will be. I love reading his novels.

A Web London mystery, third in a series.
"It took ten seconds for Web London to lose everything: his friends, his team, his reputation. Point man of the FBI's super-elite Hostage Rescue Team, Web roared into a blind alley toward a drug dealer's lair, only to meet a high-tech, custom-designed ambush that killed everyone around him." Now coping with the blame-filled words of anguished widows and the suspicions of colleagues, Web tries to put his life back together with the help of his psychiatrist, Dr. Claire Daniels. To do so, he must discover why he was the one man who lived through the ambush - and find the only other person who came out of that alley alive...a ten-year-old boy who has since disappeared.
