There is only slight and very general coverage of Surratt, his flight, and the trials. Extensive coverage of the ships he sailed on, their captains & doctors, the prosecutors, judges, & defense attorneys at the trial, and so on. These things are conveyed in long, convoluted sentences, mile-long footnotes, and endless asides. A very disappointing read.
