It is an interesting plot in an exotic setting. However, I found the characters shallow and the dialog stilted and unrealistic. Probably will not read any more in the series.

I think this is the best of the Joe Sandilands series! The background is colonial Anglo-India, its heat and dust, the intrigue of the outpost and the lives of the women who live there. The tale begins slowly and builds, accumulating mysterious deaths, until the suprising conclusion that neatly ties it all together. Great read.

This is the first book I have read by Barabar Cleverly. It was okay not great. The main character Joe is interesting enough, but the plot was very slow for the first 3/4 of book. Last few chapters were good. I was hoping for more background on India
