Trouble is, it's a 15 year old book, and it wasn't revised very elegantly, with paragraphs from 2003 thrown in willy-nilly (see page 50). I would suggest something more up-to-date, like McKibbon's "Eaarth" (also a resident of Vermont, I guess the solution to it all is just become Vermontians), where McKibbon thinks we've already arrived at hell in a handbasket.
