It's rather refreshing to read a book aimed at a younger audience, where the hero is a good guy. Hart Evans is well liked by his peers and respectful of his parents. Through his own miscalculation (which he thought funny), he stumbles into an unexpected challenge: namely, he's put in charge of directing his school's dreaded 6th grade holiday chorus concert.

Andrew resists and stumbles, then recovers and ultimately triumphs thanks to a lot of help from his classmates, learning to compromise, as well as accepting some unexpected assistance from the school's beleaguered music teacher.

No angst here, no heartbreak, no violence. Just a nice story with a happy ending, all involving Christmas.

*** Three stars!
