interesting story. wasn't entirely sure who the villan was til the end.

Carla Cassidy is one of my "go to" authors for romantic/suspense. "Last Gasp" was a good example of why. The author takes us from a single mom who is happy with her life, happy with her home-town, happy with her friends and relationships, to a woman who comes to understand that her happiness is built on shifting sand.
As we learn about Allison Clemmins past tragedy, her "head in the sand" response to it, and her determination to protect her son and herself, we come to care about them.
Her bravery in deciding to finally search for answers, to all the questions she was afraid to ask as a traumatized 15 yr. old girl, moved me. Her continued bravery in the face of public pressure to "let it go", "move on", etc., and her gradual emotional awakening to a new love, were well written and believable.
I didn't guess who the "villain" of the story was until almost the end, and thought it was a neat twist.
