This was a very readable historical novel. I hate historical novels, but took my nonfiction-reading husband up on a dare, and bought this one while traveling. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and recommend it to anyone looking for something historical that isn't a dry textbook-ish book.

A truely memorable read. It drew me into a world view I had not even known existed. We all know the cannard that history is written from the perspective of the victor, but I had not considered what it must be like to watch history leave you in the dust.
