Great start to an interesting series--it is actually an older book by these two but I found it compelling and all the characters likable! The mystery itself was good--realistic. The fact that Sharyn is the sheriff makes it a no nonsense cozy--by that I mean, no stupid scenarios by an amateur. I liked her compassion and willingness to be open-minded despite the pressure placed on her--some of the pressure wasn't explained really well but maybe it is expanded in later books! Looking forward to the next one!

I found "Last Dance" by Jim and Joyce Lavene to be a fairly good mystery, although there was not a whole lot of character development except in the main protagonist, Sharyn Howard, the "new" sheriff of Diamond Springs, NC. She has hard legacy to live up to since her father and grandfather were both sheriff of the small town before her.
Things heat up when the body of a popular and pretty high school senior is found on the high school parking lot after the prom. The manner of death and the way the body is left are very similar to a 10-year-old case that Sharyn's father handled and sent a man to death row for committing.
A good mystery that is a bit predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless. I'll read more in this series, The Sharyn Howard Mystery series.

Sounds like a great plot and that's all the book is. No fleshing out of any of the characters, scenes or ideas. Written on a 6th grade level. Very very disappointing.

Very good story, liked the characters and their interaction with one another. Good mystery, easy, fast read. Looking forward to the next books in the series. Wanting to see the characters develop. After reading more of this series, I recommend that it be read in order.
Good book and a very quick read- I read it in just two days. I liked the plot and the main character, the sheriff. Enough suspects and other tidbits to keep you guessing (although I did guess who it was!).

This book was previously released under the title The last goodbye. Last Dance is a better title. The whole series about Sheriff Sharyn Howard all have the word last in the title.
This book is a very fast read. It has larger than normal print, and and the format has less words per page. I read it in a few hours. This book is very clean and cozy overall. The main character is a female sheriff in small town in North Carolina.
Overall I found the book to be simple, maybe even flat. The mystery was obvious, but maybe that is a good thing. The sheriff solves the mystery, and connects the 2 deaths of prom queens 10 years apart. I plan to read book 2, and few more to see I want to keep reading the series.

Really quick enjoyable read. Kept me guessing until the end Teasing you with hints. Full of likeable characters. Can'twait to read Sharyn's further adventures with her cohorts. Is there love in the air? Not sure, yet.
I like reading books in a series. I usually read Christian fiction but Jim and Joyce Lavene have a clean writing style that isn't offensive.
Loved this book and look forward to reading rest of series. Written to take you into story and characters from first chapter. So sorry authors are not still with us but will enjoy reading what they have written.
