Rice at her best as she brings the Mayfair witches to life...one of my personal picks in the series...great writing...

2nd book in the Mayfair Witches books. I really loved this one because you find out what Lasher really is. If you like Anne Rice books you HAVE to read all the Mayfair Witches books.

Loved all of the witches books.

When I read a book that pulls me into the middle of it, to the point I can see, hear, taste, smell all that is happening, that's a book I want to read again and again. This entire trilogy had me from beginning to end and does so every time I read them.

This book was "OKAY". I'm invested now after reading the first book in the series, The Witching Hour but I have to say that it dragged and I was glad when it ended AND I am going to put off starting the 3rd in the series to give myself a break.
The story is different and offers some interesting characters that you do care about. However, the book drags with seemingly inane details leaving me wanting more on the character plotlines. I am no prude but I also find this book (and the series) a bit inappropriately graphic (ie disjointed sexual scenes that really don't add anything to the story).

I did not enjoy this book as much as I have enjoyed other books by this author.

I enjoyed the luchiousness of the first book of this series, but this second one had many pages of bla bla blas that just needed to be turned to get on with the story. If you're interested in a tale about witches, that doesn't dwell too much about their abilities, let alone use them but upon their genetics, this is the 3 story book tale for you.

I enjoyed this one, but not quite as much as The Witching Hour.

horrifying
Good follow up from the first book. I was not disappointed.
Before browsing on Paper Back Swap, I was unaware that the Mayfair witches saga continued past the first book. Rice does a wonderful job introducing new characters into the story and expanding on the already well developed characters that we already know and love. It is an absolute MUST READ for anyone who enjoyed the first book.
2nd book in series....great read
It was alright - I was a little disappointed - yet I bought the 3rd, so how disappointed was I really?
this is book two in the Mayfair Chronicles.
Loved this! It has more action & sex, less detail than the first (though I loved that one also). It was definitely my favorite in the series.
Incredible imagination used to create an intricate web of characters that spans generations. Can't wait to read the third book, Taltos.
Rice brings us again - even more magically - into the midst of the dynasty of witches she introduced in The Witching Hour. At the center: the brilliant and beautiful Rowan Mayfair, queen of the coven, and Lasher, the darkly compelling demon whom she finds irresistible and from whose evil spell and vision she must now flee. She takes with her their terrifying and exquisite child, one of "a brood of children born knowing, able to stand and talk on the first day." Rowan's attempt to escape Lasher and his pursuit of her and their child are at the heart of this extraordinary saga. It is a novel that moves around the globe, backward and forward through time, and between the human and demonic worlds. Its many voices - of women, of men, of demons and angels, present and past - haunt and enchant us. With a dreamlike power, the novel draws us through twilight paths, telling a chillingly hypnotic story of occult and spiritual aspirations and passion.

Anne Rice has hit the nail on the head again. What a great read!
Liked this one much better than the first.
Anne Rice's Lasher was an excellent follow-up to Witches of Mayfair.
LOVE this series of the Mayfair witches! Completely snags you from the first page to the last!
Rice's new work brings readers once more into the midst of the dynasty of witches introduced in her phenomenal runaway bestseller The Witching Hour. The novel moves around the globe, backward and forward in time, and between the worlds to tell a story of aspiration and passion.
Another great Vampire novel from Anne Rice.
This is another great installment of the Mayfair Witch saga.
I actually liked Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches Chronicles better than the Vampire Chronicles.
I couldn't put this one down
High hopes for this book after reading The Witching Hour and I think that was the problem. It was a really hard book to follow but I think she did a good job, a lot of filler at times that you wonder about but still gave the story line a perspective. Richly detailed and excellent in history. No one can do the south better.
The Beautiful Rowan Mayfair queen of the coven must flee from the darkly brutal yet irresistible demon known as Lasher. With a dream like power, this wickedly seductive entity draws us through twilight paths, telling a chillingly hypnotic story of spiritual aspirations and passion.
The sequel to The Witching Hour. Good book!
This is a great book. Anne Rice pulls you in slowly and makes you want to know everything about the lives of these fascinating people.
Excellent book
One of Rice's great novels--filled with mystery, all kinds of sex (not for faint of heart) and demons--a great read!
I love A. Rice and the Mayfair witches series.. thought this one was just as good as the first..
I thought the Mayfair Witches series were fairly creapy at first...I am not sure why they struck me that way because I love the Vampire Chronicles, however if you can make it throgh the first book then the other Mayfair books are much more intresting.
this book was a little too weird for my tastes
This book is #2 in Anne Rice's series of the Mayfair witches, and is the sequel to "The Witching Hour," which is in my opinion the best book she has ever written, and possibly one of the best fiction novels I have ever read. I am no Anne Rice fan, so please don't think I am gushing over her talents. I am begrudgingly admitting this, wishing it were any other author. "The Witching Hour (Book 1)" seriously rocks.
This book carries the story well from Book 1. It has a haunting storyline, so it has that same eerie hang-in-your-thoughts quality as the first book. However, please let me urge you, if you have read The Witching Hour and loved it, don't read this book. Do NOT read this book. Just close Book 1 and wonder; don't do it to yourself. Reading this book will make you read Book 3, and god help you when you read Book 3. I know I haven't been the same since.

This book was amazing! The whole witches chronicles are masterpieces!
lasher is eerie and seductive simultaneously.
scary book
Second in this series, the story continues. Time well spent on lush reading.
second in the witches series. just as captivating as any of the vampire novels
This book grabbed my attention, kept me through the whole story, very entertaining~
Suspenseful completion (?) to the Mayfair witchs' history. Lasher's background made credible under Anne Rice's excellent writing. Less eroticism in this book than the first. More surprises and violence also. Lasher, as villain seems formidable, unstoppable, so it's interesting to see how the author handles the ending. At the very end, I was dissappointed since it left everything up in the air but their must be a sequel. I did find Rowan's healing unbelievable but I can't say more without giving away the plot of the book. Overall, a good read but not as good as the first. Worth reading though with its suspense, mystery and characters not usually known to us.
