I just finished "Lady's Hands, Lion's Heart: a midwife sage" by Carol Leonard. I loved this book! Carol is funny, honest, and writes in a clear, conversational way that makes you feel as though you are right by her side, participating in her life.

She begins her memoir by recounting the birth of her first child, her son Milan. It was a typical mid-70's hospital experience. She goes on to tell of her interest in helping women have a beautiful birthing experience, her fight to make midwifery legal, and her meeting and finding the love of her life.

This book is full of anecdotes and wisdom. It made me laugh, and cry, and I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended!

Part biography, part a history of the resurgence of the popularity and acceptance of midwifery. Intriguing read, filled with anecdotes both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Very good.
