This was my first book read of Julie Klassen. I really enjoyed it. Romance and mystery. An accident on a dark stormy night leaves the 2 people inside the carriage unconscious and a third seen floating down river. They were found by a doctor and his son and thought to be the Lord of the manor and his wife. When the woman becomes aware of her surroundings she keeps her identity a secret and plays the part of the Lords wife as he is still unconscious. What will happen when he wakes up. and who was seen floating downriver. There is a small boy belonging to the surviving woman, who is his father?
Much suspense and surprises.

Lady Maybe was a refreshing spin on the Regency romance that had unexpected plot twists, a tangled web of deception, and a dash of mystery. It even had two potential heroes that left me guessing over Hannah's choice. A couple of times the story became a smidgen preachy for my taste, but not enough to turn me off completely. Just a darned good story all around and a worthy read at 4 stars.
Very entertaining traditional regency read, with a somewhat melodramatic plot cleverly combined with some solid characterizations and a realization that actions have consequences. Not preachy, if that's what you're worried about. I would recommend it.
Good, but not my favorite Julie Klassen book. I didn't enjoy the main character very much, but an original plot that kept me guessing to the end!
Before reading this and the Painter's Daughter I would have recommended the author as I generally liked her style and books. Now I don't know what to think as the two newest books are both very similar in dealing with extra marital affairs, children out of wedlock, etc. Not that those things didn't exist in that time period but why have your two newest books about nearly the same thing. I just didn't rally behind cheating husbands, men who leave women to face the consequences, women lying and pretending to be someone they are not. I shouldn't have read either. Now to find something better to read.
