Newest book from Ms. Scottoline featuring Mary DiNunzio, attorney reluctant. Mary's high school nemeses, The Mean Girls, need her help and feeling her usual guilt when things go wrong, she almost loses her job and her life! Loved the book.

Good story about the 'clique' of girls in high school now adults that need help with one of them being abused by her boyfriend and the twist and turns that the story takes until the very end.

First time I have read this author and I really enjoyed the book. It was different for me being all about a lawyer and not much romance. I wouldn't have thought I like it, but I did!

Lisa Scottoline has always been a favorite of mine and she didn't let me down with this one. Sweet, mild-mannered Mary DiNunzio is bringing in a ton of business in the law office where she works and when her old high-school nemesis comes to her begging for help, it leads Mary down a path where she never thought she would go.

Mary DiNunzio is an attorney who is dismayed when former mean girl Trish walks into her office and demands her help. Apparently her boyfriend (who just so happens to be Mary's former love) has become abusive and she fears for her life and has nowhere to turn. Mary makes a few suggestions but Trish refuses police intervention because her boyfriend is in the mob and will kill her. What she expects Mary to do then escapes me . . . but she stomps out of Mary's office in a huff and soon after disappears. Now everyone from Mary's neighborhood is ticked off at her because "she didn't do anything" and Mary is forced into spending time with Trish's friends who tormented her as a teen and have grown into annoying women who cause Mary no end of trouble.
Mysteries aren't my favorite genre but this one was peopled with well written characters who were interesting if not always likable (lots of shallow, self-centered women in this book). There was a little humor, a little romance and enough twists and turns and secrets to hold my attention.

cottoline is in her best form when she's writing about Mary DiNunzio, a three-dimensional complex character who's just fun to be around. Mary's still ambivalent about being a lawyer (although she's becoming a rainmaker in her firm, thanks to the residents of her old neighborhood). She still goes home to her mom when things get tough. And she's still an associate at Bennie Rosato's firm.
So what does Mary do when her old high school classmate (Trish) shows up, married to the mob and an apparent victim of domestic violence? Never mind that Trish led the Mean Girls, the snooty gang that did everything they could to make Mary's high school life miserable. Mary gives Trish some lawyerly advice, worried for her classmate's safety. When Trish disappears, Mary risks everything to find her...including some trips to off the wall places far from Center City Philadelphia.
Only Scottoline knows how to combine human interest with edge of the chair suspense. Just about every character has a piece of story, just enough to be memorable. Mary rounds up clues in classic detective story fashion, but shatters tradition with a romantic comedy interlude.

Mary DiNunzio of Rosato & Associates returns to unravel several mysteries with roots all the way back to her high school days. It's another enjoyable book from Lisa Scottoline and will delight anyone with an interest in South Philly neighborhoods.

Mary DiNunzio is a successful Philly lawyer. Then one day an old high school nemesis arrives in the office looking for help. Her boyfriend is a mob connected abuser and she fear for her life. Mary is shocked to see the woman and to realize that the man in question was her first love. What happens next as Mary tries to help the woman forms the bases of this crackling story. There are a couple of murders and a long list of suspects as Mary comes to terms with her past and finds hope for the future. And the revelation of the real killer is a complete surprise. Another good read with familiar characters from the Bernie Rosato stories.

another good one bt Lisa Scottoline!
In recent years, Mary DiNunzio has become a big-time business-getter at Rosato & Associates, but the last person she expects to walk into her office one morning is super sexy Trish Gambone, her high school rival. â As it turns out, Trish's life has taken a horrifying turn. She's terrified of her boyfriend, who's an abusive drug dealer for the South Philly mob. There's only one problemâMary remembers the guy from high school, too. Unbeknownst to Trish, Mary had a major crush on him.
Then Trish vanishes, a dead body turns up in an alley, and Mary is plunged into a nightmare. She goes on a one-woman crusade to unmask the killer, and on the way finds new love in a very unexpected place.
