LADY OF ASHES is like two different stories in one book. The murder mystery alluded to in the book jacket doesn't get going until well past the book's halfway point. The first part of the book is about Violet Morgan and her husband, who is involved in a nefarious scheme with his brother. I did not find the plot compelling, but did find the protagonist Violet very likable and enjoyed the descriptions of Victorian England, Queen Victoria, and the undertaking profession. An appealing read for historical fiction fans.
