"I do not write to trigger victims. I write to comfort them, and I've found that victims identify more with pain than with platitudes." - Chanel Miller
Know My Name by Chanel Miller is an incredibly powerful memoir. It is raw and difficult and eloquent and honest. Many times I was reading along and a single profound sentence stopped me in my tracks.
It's terrible that Miller was raped by Brock Turner "the Stamford Swimmer"; in 2015. Her courage, victim impact statement, and memoir ensure she will not be remembered for that event but for the ways in which she took control of her life after that horrific event. Her words have given strength and courage to countless people and will continue to do so.

I just finished reading this book. I had my moments when I wasn't sure if I was going to finish it. She had a story to tell, and it should be told. It tore at my heart reading her story. This is the woman who was sexually assaulted by Stanford University's champion swimmer Brock Turner, the one who when you read about it in the news after it happened, they only kept talking about his GPA and his plans to be in the Olympics that would probably now be impossible. This is HER story, and probably the story of any other woman who has been sexually assaulted in her life. Two years of her life on hold for trials and appeals. Two years of her witnesses' lives, having to be ready at a moment's notice to testify. Not sleeping, not eating, huddled in bed, in corners, darkened rooms, afraid to go out in public. He NEVER showed remorse. They got rid of the judge who handled the case-his decisions were so terrible. One shining moment in a passage where Vice President Biden wrote to her, and one moment that made me so angry I wanted to scream, comparing her rapist to Trump. No explanations needed.
I highly recommend this book, if it's subject matter is of interest to you.
