Don't get me wrong - I love knitting, and am proud to pull out my knitting on the bus, waiting in line, or wherever. But I was still a bit embarassed while reading a book called "KNITTING RULES!" on the bus and could NOT control my giggling. Any knitter will identify with the mistakes, the thrills, the angst, and the obsessiveness that she describes. She also gives helpful tips and guidelines, all in an amusing style that will occassionally have you groaning or laughing outloud in sympathy or recognition.

Funny book with some useful tips for beginning knitters. Best read after you've knit at least one hat and one scarf, but before you've knit full cabled sweaters for your entire extended family.

More knitting tips and sassy commentary from The Yarn Harlot. Knitters of any level will probably find some new ideas here. No patterns per se, but lots of basic recipes that will allow you to plug in your own yarns and stitch patterns to make socks, hats, scarves, shawls, etc.

An enjoyable book that teaches and provides tips/techniques in a fun way. It has a lot of workable concepts to help build knitting skills. I would not, however, suggest it as a first or introductory book.
