"You, missy, are a two-bit hack."
Welcome to Frog Ledge, Connecticut. Kristan "Stan" Connor lost her high profile job in marketing and moves to a small town to regroup. Her passion is making organic treats for her sensitive Maine Coon, Nutty. Stan becomes suspect number one when she finds the local vet dead.
Frog Ledge is a cornucopia of unusual characters. Ray and Char Mackey run the local B&B and have an alpaca farm. Isabella Sweets is the owner of (what else) a sweet and coffee shop. Amara Leonard is Stan's next door neighbor and local homeopath. And let's not forget Jake McGee, the Irish pub owner and local bad boy/womanizer. Oh and all the lovely animals! Jake's very disobedient Weimaraner, Duncan leads the pack.
Jake's sister, Jessie, is the local law and keeps Stan under a very watchful eye. The locals start to suspect her as well since she is the newcomer.
I wondered how I could make this work for a culinary theme when I first started reading it. I LOVE the recipes for the cat and dog treats. I wish she had shared her crockpot recipes for Nutty's food. I have a Maine Coon with sensitivities and we cook for him. Well, we cook for everyone. One of my recent rescues has seizures and can't have anything processed. I will be trying the treats so he can have a little something special each day.
This book caught my attention from the beginning and I read it straight through. The characters are well done, the story was believable and the murderer slipped under my radar.
I will definitely be reading more of this series!
