It will take longer to describe than the story lasted. Although listed at ninety-six pages, this short story includes an intro chapter into another book. This novella is about fifty pages long. Alexandra is a widow who suddenly sees one of her tormentors in her younger years --Cortland De Witt. For his part, Cort has always loved Alex, but she married another, and he joined the military.
Cort is injured during a storm, and Alex's groomsmen happen to see him and his horse beside the road. After she takes care of him, they wind up in bed. Then, Cort challenges Alex to meet him at a party in a couple of weeks if she is interested in furthering the relationship. Of course, she is, and they do.
This is my first reading of a Tracy Sumner work. When I saw the word "f--k," I wasn't impressed. If you are looking for steamy sex with very little story to get in the way, this is a great author. For myself, I'll pass her by.
