Hmmmm, it just doesn't quite make it as a story, maybe because there's no great uplifting message. I can see why this didn't really catch on. It reads kind of like a prequel to "500 hats of Bartholomew Cubbins", (this was written in 1939), since it has a heroic pageboy, gangs of cats, and strange men dressed in long robes. It also has evil birds that look a lot like Vlad Vladikoff, of recent movie fame.
