I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. I liked the various characters, especially Dar & the Orcs. I will read the rest of the series ~ I need to found out how it ends. If you like fantasy stories that are well written then try this one.

Excellent Read! Couldn't put the book down it was so good. The story is very original and was written well. My boyfriend even read it and liked it too! Fall in love with fantasy again, read this book :) I'm keeping it around for a second read through. And bought the others books in the series.
The novel is about Dar, who is branded as a salve and forced to serve the regiment of orcs that fight for her king. Dar was used to a rough life, she grow up in the cold and poor mountain regions with a family that was happy to send her away. However Dar is able to open up to the orcs and communicates with them while the other humans are just disgusted and afraid of the orcs. It becomes apparent that perhaps Dar was destined to befriend the orcs. The title does suggest she will be Queen of the Orcs.
2/2/ 2010 Follow Up: Read the second book in the series "Clan Daughter." Not disappointing at all. :)
