This is Book 2 of the Barker & Llewelyn mystery series.

Unlike Mark Frost, whose second Holmes-inspired novel fell dreadfully short of his phenomenal debut, The List of Seven, Will Thomas seems to have improved upon an already successful start.

I found this book even more tightly written than the first. There was more emphasis on the plot this time and the mystery was more fully developed. Character development continued at a believable pace without being overbearing, and the author continues to tease the reader as he slowly doles out details about Barker's mysterious past one tiny morsel at a time.

While Some Danger Involved focused on Jewish immigration to London in the 1880s, To Kingdom Come focuses on a group of Irish terrorists bent upon blowing up most of London for the sake of Irish independence.

Will Thomas is on to something here and I'm not wasting any time before I pick up the next book in this entertaining series.

I love the characters in these stories. This series is great. Right up there with Anne Perry. Can't wait for the next one

This is a great series-- reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes character but with a bit more humor and more history about different aspects of Victorian English life, especially what we would now call "diversity", ie, Chinese immigrants, the Irish, Jews, etc.
