The night winds sung it to sleep, and the breezes softly fanned it, and the Lady Twilight brought her precious dew-wine for it to drink. And the Flower grew in beauty and sent forth new blossoms, and every day waxed fairer and fairer. One day when the fairy Breeze had been romping and playing " hide-and-seek " in the woods with his brother, Zephyr, he suddenly bethought himself of the garden and the lovely Flower, whom he had not seen for several days. " Before we go back to Cloud-land, let us go and kiss the Blossom good-night," said Breeze. So Zephyr and Breeze danced gaily into the garden; but they paused in astonishment and sorrow when they saw the beautiful Flower, for her petals were shriveled, and her leaves were drooping. "Dear Blossom, what is the matter?" asked Zephyr, as he put his little wind-arms around her. '' Are you faint, sweet Flower ?'' queried Breeze. "Yes," moaned the Blossom, "I am faint, I am dying, for want of water." '' Let me fan you,'' said Breeze; and he blew wave after wave of cool air upon her, until she revived and could speak more clearly. " For many days it has not rained," she said faintly, "and I have besought the Butterflies and the Bees to bring me a raincloud, that I might drink; but they have fluttered off and left me."
