A wonderful mystery- It is hilarious and keeps you guessing to the end.Lacy the fashion editor for a small paper finds herself solving a murder. She is wonderful- you will relate to the character so much that you find yourself caught up in the book until you turn the last page. I did not put this book down- I need to catch up with alot of housework before I open the second book of the series. Grab Ellen Byerrum books and find yourself a park and read. The money we save at PBS- we can hire a maid for a day and our husband won't know.

I read pages 1-5 and stopped, restarted latter and almost gave up. It may have been me. WOW Ellen Byerrum can write. She knows how to make the characters distinct. Her main character is so real, honest and fun. This is set in Washington DC and the main characters last name is Smithsonian. There are alot of political and DC jokes. It helps of you know some Areas of DC. I like how the character is realistic about many things. The fashion jabs are great.

Lacey Smithsonian is on the fashion beat at a smaller Washington DC paper. When an up and coming stylist named Angie is found dead, a mutual friend (Lacey's stylist and Angie's coworker) asks Lacey to look into the death. The pacing was a little weird at times and I felt like I was missing something from time to time. Overall though, it was a fun mystery. I'm still not totally sure what was up with the killer, but it seems the first in a cozy mystery series is never quite as good as the ones that follow. I'm rather confident this is the case with this series.

First in the Crime of Fashion Mysteries. Good start. Book 2 is better, but this gives good background on the characters.

I really like this series. This is the first in the series and it took me a couple of chapters to decide if I would like it as much as I hoped. I did! And each book gets better and better. This is a series and I think best read in order. But the books have a great plot, lots of good humor, and wonderful characters.

Lacey Smithsonian is a fashion reporter for a small paper in Washington, DC. One of the hairdressers from the beauty salon where Lacey goes "commits suicide". Lacey's hairdresser does not believe it was suicide and brow beats Lacey into digging into it. After another hairdresser also "kills herself", and Lacey gets threats and then is attacked herself, things really take off. Add a handsome security consultant, with ties to Lacey from the past, and things get interesting.

This book is about the murder of an up and coming hair stylist. Colmunist Lacey Smithsonian, investigates the crime with the help of a hunky ex-cop.
This was an OK cozy ... It started off a little slow - I found it hard to get into. But it did eventually pick up. It was somewhat predictable, but still an enjoyable read.
Cute book
Well, this is a tough one. I did finish this book and have started book 2 of the series. Seem to be slogging through these books read another in between finishing the first one and the second one as well. Wish the plot would move along a bit faster. Enjoy reading about fashion. So if you have an interest in fashion you would probably enjoy reading. Obviously, the author writes well enough that I am finishing the book and moving onto the next. Just didn't find it as funny as some other reviewers did ... probably just my frame of mind at the time ;o)
This book is about a woman who is a newspaper columnist who helps her hairdresser solve the murder of a co-worker. It was very funny.
An up-and-coming stylist, Angie Woods had a reputation for rescuing down-and-out looks--and careers--all with a pair of scissors. But when Angie is found dead with a drastic haircut and a razor in her hand, the police assume she committed suicide over the shear disaster. Lacey knew the stylist and suspects something more sinister--that the story may lie with Angie's star client, a congressional staffer with a salacious Web site. Or with a recent string of thefts at the salon, helped by a hunky ex-cop, Lacey must root out the truth--before she becomes the next subject of a hostile makeover.
This was such a fun summer read. I can't wait to start reading the 2nd book. I love the way the author describes everything and really makes you feel like you know the characters. Great book!!
A crime of fashion mystery
cozy series
Well rounded characters and fully thought out plot lines made Killer Hair an interesting read that was hard to put down. I was disappointed in the rapidly increasing body count, though - somewhat jarring for a typical cozy mystery style.
Fun to read
Light, fun read.
Fun read,
Home of the helmet hairdo and Congressional comb-over, Washington, D.C. is a hotbed of fashion faux pas. If anyone should know, it's "Crimes of Fashion" columnist Lacey Smithsonian. She dishes out advice to the scandal-scorched and clothing-clueless, doing her part to change this town-one fashion victim at a time...
