Ex-pat John Rain is enjoying a relatively peaceful retirement in Tokyo when he gets a call from an old friend. Someone has a job for Rain-the assassination of 3 people involved in a sex-crimes investigation. Rain turns the job down, thinking that's the end of it. Meanwhile, in Seattle, sex-crimes detective Livia Lone narrowly survives an attempt on her life. When two other people working a child pornography case with her perish in a suspicious commercial airline crash, she decides to reach out for help to ex-Marine sniper Dox. In order to get to the bottom of the attempt Lone's life, Dox assembles a unique team of individuals, each with a specific skill set. It will take the combination of all their skills to get to the bottom of this mystery.

The Killer Collective by Barry Eisler is the tenth novel featuring assassin-for-hire John Rain. The novel also features characters from two other Eisler series, Livia Lone and Ben Treven, making for a very good novel. This happens to be my first exposure to John Rain but it won't be my last. Eisler has created a cast of realistic characters to accompany a riveting plot which grabs the reader on the very first page and doesn't let go. I plan to go back and start with the first novel as soon as I can. As for this novel, I give it 4/5 stars.

This series is not for me, I like a straight forward story without all the unnecessary descriptions and this one has a galore of that

1. too many characters
2. complicated and confusing
3. too much detailed fighting scenes from kung-fu to rocket launcher to gun shootouts and etc etc etc--yuk
4. what is the main storyline here? just too muddled up with all the unnecessary junk
5. 400 pages for a book that is interesting will go pretty fast but this one is just too long with too much page filler that is boring boring boring

If you are a big fan of this series then good for you but it's just not for everyone that wants just a good story to flow along without so much junk that this one has in it
