Evan is searching for her father - his car went off a cliff on a curvy road - is he there waiting for help or is there more? Evan gets a call from the kidnappers to trade information for her father. She travels and joins with Tim & Jax to get the info before the time deadline. Truths better left undiscovered are unearthed and the Delaney family must deal with the consequences. A lot of action and fast paced story line.
The plot of this book moves at a really fast pace which was entertaining. I didn't realize when I started the book that it was #5 in a series, but I didn't have any problem with story continuity by jumping in at the middle of the series.
I don't consider myself a prude, but there was just way too much vile swearing (maybe enhanced in my mind because I was listening to this as an audio book, not reading it on a page) and the villians were all just totally disgusting. I thought it was a dark storyline with a depressing ending.
I've read all sorts of thrillers and suspense novels. This one just didn't click with me. Maybe it was because it centered on a prostitution ring where the leader injects the whores with a hormone to keep them loooking like young children. (Ewwwww....)
But to be fair, it WAS a thriller. It had me sitting in my driveway listening to the last 20 minutes of the final CD in my car.
As a sidenote: There was a funny afterword by Stephen King in which he sings the praises of Meg Gardiner. He puts her writing skills just a notch above Sue Grafton's and totally disses Patricia Cornwell. It's the first time I've heard an author endorsing a book and comparing and contrasting it to other authors in the genre as an afterword. He really must LOATHE Patricia Cornwell!!
