My husband read this book. He found it fascinating. The Boer War officially ended in 1902, but there were small skirmishes off and on until 1912. My husband said that the Boers and the English fought together against the Germans in Africa during WWI. He said one Boer commander, General Smutt, a Boer, was commander of British troops in German East Africa. One of the captains under his commande was English, and had difficulty talking because he had taken a Boer bullet in his throat during the Boer War. Smutt was a good commander, and respected by his English troops. My husband said the war in Africa was a dirty war; he said 70% of the casualties of all troops was due to disease. He thorouoghly enjoyed the book.
