I did not enjoy this book as much as other Will Trent books.

There is no better female thriller writer than Karin Slaughter. Her Will Trent series is the best. You need to read this series in order so that this book will be more enjoyable if you have all of the back story. Angie, Will's wife, is the center figure of the novel. We get more about Angie's past life which is very tragic. The subjects of rape and domestic abuse is also foremost in this novel and Slaughter handles these subjects in a very realistic way. Even though Will is now in a relationship with Sara, Angie is still playing mind games with Will. There are many twists and turns which keep the pages turning until the very end. The only gripe I have with the book is it's length due to the fact that we get to know everything Angie, Will and Sara are thinking and I think some of those thoughts could have been edited better. I would, however, highly recommend this series to those who love thrilling stories with a bit of romance added in.

Will Trent and Faith Mitchell investigate a murder at an abandoned nightclub owned by Marcus Rippey, a basketball star who recently managed to avoid a rape conviction. The victim is Dale Harding, a retired cop. He was found lying in a pool of blood with a doorknob sticking out of his throat. Dr. Sara Linton examines the body and confirms that the blood does not belong to Harding. Bloody footprints leaving the scene tell them that a woman is badly injured and probably will not survive if she isn't found immediately.
The eighth book in Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series is intense. What makes it so intense? Will's estranged wife, Angie Polaski, is back in town. Angie is a character I love to hate. This time she is once again mixed up in a murder. Is she the killer? Is she the victim? The story is told from both Will and Angie's point-of-view. We learn more of their tragic past and what makes them tick. I believe the author was trying to make Angie a little more sympathetic. But just when I start to feel bad for her, she's back to manipulating and hurting everyone we care about.
This is an excellent story. I thought I had the mystery figured out early in this book, but I was wrong. I highly recommend this book, but you must read the previous books in the series to enjoy this one. My rating: 5 Stars.

An engrossing story and good page turner, with some plot twists that you don't expect. Loved seeing Sara Linton (from the Grant County series) as an integral part of the book.
