Benni Harper series. A spirited ex-cowgirl, quilter and folk-art expert. She's got an eye for murderous designs and a talent for piecing together the most complex and cold-blooded crimes.

This is the third mystery in Earlene Fowler's Benni Harper series. What a great mix of mystery, quilts, and horses in this one! Benni and her new husband Gabe Ortiz take a vacation to Kansas to visit Gabe's mother and sisters. A young woman is brutally murdered at a barbeque given by Gabe's sister. It turns out that the murder victim has left a nearby Amish community, adding another storyline to the plot. Great series!

Excellent sequel to Irish Chain where Benni and Gabe get to know each other better and meet Gabe's mother, sisters and old high school friends. Trouble start right away when Benni finds a dead body - an aspiring country western singer. Interesting plot twists and Gabe finally opens up to Benni a bit.
enjoyable read
First of all I must say that this is the first book I've read by Earlene Fowler and the first I've read in this series. Maybe if I started with the first book, I might have actually enjoyed this book but I found that I had zero interest in the story and even less interest (if that's possible) in the main characters. The story jumps in too quickly without giving any background on the hero and heroine. You meet the Amish victim for a total of about 5 minutes and I just didn't care who killed her or why and to me that is a death knoll in a story. Between the Amish backstory, the quilt-speak and the one-dimensional characters, this is definitely not a series I will continue.
I love this Benni Harper series. . .great series, love, romance, and mystery all in one.
great read
