I liked Pursuit, the first book to feature these characters, so I wanted to like this one. But...I can't. The heroine is hard to like, in my opinion. The storyline is slow, and she is just to whiny and issue-ridden for my tastes.
Totally agree with LeeAnn's review. It didn't even feel like the characters were the same ones from Pursuit (they seemed to have totally different personalities from the previous book.)
First two chapters left me wondering where this was going but after that I really got into the story. Stay with this book and you will be pleased with the need to find out who the bad guys really are.
Hard book for me to really get into. I have liked many of her other books a lot more.
From the back cover: "Ever since feisty criminal attorney Jessica Ford started her dream job at a prestigious Washington D.C. law firm, her mind has raced with questions. Like why the hell her hunky ex. Secret Service agent Mark Ryan insists on being her personal bodyguard. Maybe winning her first high-profile trial wasn't exactly the key to hiding her true identitiy, but nobody is actually trying to kill her...right?
After Mark rescues Jess from an attacker outside her apartment, she begins to wonder if she is a target. Her ambitious young predecessor on the case has vanished without a trace, and no one has heard from the prosecution's star witness since she made a shocking courtroom revelation. Are the disappearances simply a coincidence? As Jess hurtles closer to the truth-and her attraction to Mark heats up-she finds herself in a race for answers before what she doesn't know gets them both killed."
