Any one wanting to read a book that takes you on a interesting journy of discovery, Jumper is the book for you. I was hooked from the very beginning. I can't wait to read the second and third installments. It's action and adventure rolled into one great book.

Saw the dvd when it came out the beginning of June...went right out and got a copy of the book. So GOOD. However, "NO SPOILERS", but the book is VASTLY different than the movie.

As usual, books are even better...well, to me!
Just read it a 2nd time, 20+ days later, and was such fun to read again. I only reread a very rare few books. This one, for me, was worth it. Now I can share it!

I don't usually read this type of book (Science Fiction) but I am a true believer that someone wouldn't spend millions of dollars to make a movie if the book isn't worth it. In this case I was very right. This is a great coming of age story about an abused boy who comes to accept his gifts and himself for who he is. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who likes good story telling with something to say.

I thought it started with WAY too much attention to detail about the mundane aspects of the main character's day/life/actions, but there's logic behind. It makes sense later when the yound man executes his plans! Good read, easy, entertaining, escapist.

This book is a pretty easy read but drastically different than the movie....if someone has seen the movie and think this book is okay for their kids you may want to read it 1st. The book is a lot darker and may contain elements parents don't want their children to be aware of yet (Alcohol abuse, physical abuse, attempted rape) granted these things are glossed over and not described fully, however, they are still there.

The book is much darker then the movie. Fantastic first book for Steven Gould.

This is a very enjoyable book. It evokes the "what if" wonder that we all feel as children growing up. What if I could "jump" like Davey? How would I change my life?

I read this several years ago and have it on my permanent bookshelf. I will read it again soon and enjoy it as much or more than I did before.

I highly recommend this book to anyone. A good read.

I had heard that this book is better than the movie, but after seeing the movie--which was awful!--I just couldn't bring myself to read this. Especially with its incredibly lame cover. (I've seen at least four different covers for this book and all of them suck.) However, I finally did read this book and it turns out that it's actually quite good! The main character is a seventeen-year-old who discovers he can teleport. He doesn't know why, he doesn't know how, he just knows he can. He uses this talent for the first time accidentally to get away from his abusive alcoholic father. He figures out he can teleport to anywhere he's been (and can remember accurately) or anywhere he can see. Now what? He's certainly not going home to his father and his mother left home years ago never to be heard from again. This is the story of love, loss and revenge, an exploration of right and wrong. It's not a difficult read but it's definitely a page-turner. If you saw the movie, forget it, this is nothing like that. This is a good, fun read with a hint of depth.

What if you could escape from trouble, in the blink of an eye? And what if you were seventeen and on the run from an abusive father? "Jumper" is the story of Davy, who when his father tried to beat him one too many times, suddenly develops the ability to teleport to escape danger. When he runs away from home, he not only finds out how to control his new power, he also attracts the attention of the NSA, who covets his ability. This story has danger, excitement, and the discovery of love by a young man who hadn't much of a chance to know it before. Recommended, but has a couple of graphic scenes at the beginning...not for kids or the squeamish.

Solid sf story - a little young adultish and some odd pacing but an enjoyable read overall.

One of my alltime favorites. I have read this perhaps 20 times (and, yes, I read thousands of other books), but this one is special.

This is a great sci-fi book about a boy who finds out that he can "jump" his body o another place invisibly. Eventually the government wants to find him for their own needs, but there is much more to it before that happens!

This book was the basis for the 2008 motion picture by the same name. However, only the basic premise of a young man with the ability to instantaneously transport himself around the world, is shared. Thus the book and the movie complement each other, and the reader is left with an original experience even if they have seen the movie.

A fun exercise is to imagine what opportunities and pitfalls you would experience given the same ability. Try to see how many you considered that the author missed and vice verse.

Great book -- On its face it would look like a YA novel, with a teen-aged protagonist, youthful angst, first love, etc.

But it is definitely a great read for adults too.

I have read and re-read this many times. I like all of Gould's books, but this is probably my favorite.

This book was pretty good. Fairly well written and an easy read with pretty exciting climax. I did find it bogged down a bit in the middle, and certain details here and there I found a bit baffling, for example, the main character wears a necktie to a college house party. Huh? It was a decent read.

Apparently a movie has been made of this novel, though I haven't seen it.
A teen-ager panics and suddenly he is SOMEWHERE ELSE--somewhere miles away from his previous location. At first he suspects he had some sort of blackout because his abusive parent did something horrible and his mind won't let him remember exactly what happened.
Later he discovers he can teleport.
After that, things get interesting. Well worth reading!

From back cover: What if you could go anywhere in the world, in the blink of an eye? Where would you go? What would you do? Davy can teleport. To survive, Davy must learn to use and control his power in a world that is more threatening and complex than he ever imagined
