This book and this series is one of my all time favorites.
I have told everyone I know to read these.
They are a few of the books I value so much that they are ones that
staying on my shelf to read again.
This is an incredible read that will touch you through and through.
I can't rate it high enough. I would give it a 100!
I can't wait for Leisha Kelly's next book coming out later this year (2007)
and I hope she writes many, many more!

The sequel to Emma's gift.A Christian fiction book that shows what is truly important in life and the resiliancy of the human spirit
I like stories set in the Depression Era. I enjoy reading about how the people struggled yet persevered and banded together. I really enjoyed this book!

LOVED this book!! I didn't know whether I'd like it or not, because I'm usually drawn to the books about the Amish or plain communities. This book is set back during the depression and the author is a great story teller! I couldn't wait to finish and read the next two in the series. Highly recommended!

This was a great read.

A really wonderful story!
Outstanding! One of the best books I've read in a long time. Leisha Kelly's ability to portray the depth's of human emotion is exceeded only by her capacity to advance a gripping plot.
Julia and Samuel Wortham are down on their luck during the Depression Era. Samuel has lost his job, their home has been taken back by the bank, and they have no money nor mode of transportation, but their feet. They begin their journey from Pennsylvania to Illinois with their two children in hopes of finding a job, a new home, and happiness.
As they journey across the land, they find prejudice and kindness, but none as precious as the kindness of dear, sweet Emma, who has taken many families under her wing and given more of herself than one could ever imagine.
Wholesome story and I was relieved to find that after book 1 there are two more books to continue the story of the Wortham and Hammond families!

(Heather's review) This is one of my favorite books. In fact I love all of Mrs. Kelly's books I've read and re-read them several times. Mrs. Kelly went home to be with the Lord last year and although I am glad for her, I feel a loss at knowing there will be no more books coming from her.
I am easily able to relate to the characters in this series, many of whom are developed in this first book. They are quite individual. I am all to aware of our nation's financial crisis and am drawn to this book again because I wonder if some of us are now living like the families herein. Most importantly I love how Julia and Samuel react in a very real way to the trials they come across and their reactions make me wonder if I myself would be able to react in such a godly manner or if I would cave when faced with temptation. May you be blessed as I have been if you choose to read this book.

Simply beautiful! I couldn't put this one down. Just when you think things are bad you read a book like this and realize things could be much, much worse. God is great, God is good!
a well written, gentle book about learning what is important in life.
All of Leisha Kelly books are keepers! She takes you back to a time in America that is factual; that is historical. But, no matter the misery or sorrow of that time, she gives you a real hope in her characters. Readers will love here stories!
I loved this book! It is hard to believe it was thw author's first novel. I enjoyed the tender storyline and the vivid details. I want a sequel!
This was such a fantastic story! It was about a family back in the Depression Days who were totally down on their luck with no place to call home. An older widow took them under her wing and let them live in her farm house which had stood empty since the death of her husband and her subsequent move to town. I won't go any further than that because I don't want to give anything away but trust me, this is a must read book!! I look forward to reading the other three books which make up this series!
I loved this book - I went out and bought all the rest of the books about the Whortham Family. Brought me back to some of the stories my grandmother told me about life during the depression.
This is anamazing book. It was an easy read and a fast read because I couldn't put it down. What anamazing series. Everyone needs to try this book.

This author is amazing. This is her first published book. I was stunned when I read it. It was like I was living the story. I was transported into the story. It is really a good one. I highly recommend it. There are quite a few books that follow this one. So far I've read several.
Also of note, the amazing thing is that she has also published books under the name of L. A. Kelly. They are a different genre, but are sooo very good too. This author is amazing. I love her books. I believe she is one of those authors whose works will endure. To me, she compares to C.S. Lewis. A hearty recommend.

Absolutely loved this book; couldn't put it down. Very heart warming story about a farm family during and after the great depression.
