I didn't know Conrad was a Polish refugee living in England, or anything about his wife Marguerite, or the many other women in his life. He had a torrid affair with Jane Anderson, an American journalist who became a traitor in WWII! He was a man of intense passions and fell in love many times. At one time, he went to a spa in Switzerland, hoping that mountain air and being sprayed with a high-pressure fire hose would improve his health. The book discusses his friendships with other leading writers of his time, including Hentry Jame, Bertrand Russell and H.G. Wells, among others. It describes how events in his personal life appear in Conrad's writings. This is a comprehensive biography - well researched and an interesting read indeed.
