Jinx
Author: Meg Cabot
The only thing Jean Honeychurch hates more than her boring name (not Jean Marie, or Jeanette, just . . . Jean) is her all-too-appropriate nickname, Jinx. Misfor-tune seems to follow her everywhere she goes—which is why she's thrilled to be moving in with her aunt and uncle in New York City. Maybe when she's halfway across the count...  more »

Yet another great book by Meg Cabot. This one deals with finding out who you really are despite what everyone else is telling you, and Jinx does exactly that. It also deals a lot with peer pressure (drugs are involved in the story, along with hints at sex..though exactly what is being done sex wise is never stated..it is very easy to guess), and drinking. This book also shows you what can happen when drugs and alcohol get into your life and how jealousy can destroy you.

Very good story line and a bunch of very good lessons that this book teaches its readers.

Any fan of lighter paranormal and Meg Cabot will definitely enjoy JINX.
This was way to quick of a read. I liked the the characters (both good and bad), I felt like I knew them and the sincerity
of the character Jinx and her personal values. She was the kind of character parents want their teenage daughters to
read about. I wish there was a series about her. The way witchcraft is referenced in this book shows Meg Cabot did a
lot of research just to show girls who idolize these kinds of things it is not fun and games it is serious business not to
be copied or toyed with.
Although it does have the usual Meg Cabot plot, it does not mean that it doesn't have its spontaneous moments. Definitely
a must read if you consider yourself a fan of Meg Cabot's books.
I loved it and recommend it for all girls or adults probably 10 and up.

Jean, aka Jinx, is the most unlucky person ever to live. Jinx says this about herself: "If I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all."

And that only gets worse when she arrives in New York.

After her ex-boyfriend begins stalking her, she moves from her little town in Iowa to New York City to live with her aunt and uncle. Her cousin, Tory, Jean quickly realizes, is not the same as she was five years ago, when they would climb trees together and swim in the river. On her first day in New York she sees Tory hanging out with her friends, drinking and doing drugs.

What Jean doesn't realize at first is that Tory thinks she's a witch.

So what was it that made Jean leave her home? What's up with Tory and this whole "witch" thing?

JINX is Mrs. Cabot's best paranormal book yet! Jean is so funny, klutzy, and naive that it's impossible not to love her! I just could not put this book down after I turned the first page! I was even laughing when I read the first paragraph! Yet another great book from Meg Cabot, as expected!

I really enjoyed this book! I read it in just a few hours because I couldn't put it down. The way the conversation/writing flowed was so easy to read. Parts of it really reminded me though of the movie "The Craft" with Robin Tunney. A bit dark and if you don't want your kids to read about witchcraft, then I wouldn't recommend the book. Otherwise, very good for a quick read.

Cute book. It reminds me a bit of a movie, although I cannot recall the title right now. But, it is about a teenager coming to terms with her power. However, it mainly focuses on her relationship with a boy and her cousin.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I sometimes felt as if I was missing a prequel or something, as it's very vague about Jinx's past until the middle of the book. I really reccomend this book, but don't be worried if you're confused at first. Maybe someday we'll get a prequel!
