If you have read Holy Blood, Holy Grail, then this book serves as a "follow up." While not as compelling as the first book, this one goes on to clear up some of the questions from Holy Blood, Holy Grail, while casting more mystery on the subject of Jesus and Mary. If you liked The Di Vinci Code, this book helps explain a lot of its plot as well.

Whether or not Jesus survived the crucifixion isn't the point; in fact, the historical Jesus (if he even existed as a single person) is almost impossible to ascertain. What is the point: humanity has been deliberately manipulated, lied to and brainwashed (yes, brainwashed: you think it easy to step around this mythological premise, with its deeply ingrained fear of damnation should you do it? Try it.) In the process of leading the 'faithful' astray, consciousness has been severely affected, prevented from evolving (as I believe it is intended to do, and I'm hardly alone in that belief), and the "supernatural" gifts with which we are all born have been systematically denied and condemned. Isn't it time for those who seek the Divine to cast aside the extremely powerful and wealthy who intend to continue to perpetrate this fraud so long as they can get away with it? I think so.

Rather shocking, compelling, and informative account of Jesus' life and death. Not only will this book make you question Christianity and it's origins but it will give the reader new insight on how Christianity was and should be viewed based on the Jewish and even Egyptian background it rose from. It answered many questions for me that most ministers of the faith could not or simply left to 'Gods' will. The Devinci Code was based on Baigent's work and probably is the reason why the Church was fearful of the popularity of the book. This is a MUST read!
superbly written with good theories, nonetheless theories and should keep in mind conjectures about the death and the classic "Passover plot" Also as usual Baigent excels in the archeology as well as the history and beliefs of that era, particularly those surrounding the Roman and Greek world set of parallel beliefs and mythology.

Although portions of this book are a bit technical and difficult to slog through, it is well worth doing so. The information presented is thought-provoking, if not controversial, and will have you looking at what you know of Jesus, the Bible, Christianity and the history of man in a whole new light.
