This is a great war novel, but should probably not have been Star Wars. The characters are annoying, the Separatist and local resistance leaders are unrealistic, and so on. And why are there a million battle droids on such an unimportant planet? Here is more on the characters:
Anakin Skywalker: not himself
Nejaa Halcyon: A creepy Jedi Master who does not deserve to be a Jedi. Somewhat of a copy of the Anakin of this story, except he is older and weirder
Erk: A pilot who irks me
Odie Subue: Some undersized person with nothing better to do than bug readers of the book
Pors Tonith: An Intergalactic Banking Clan member who does nothing more that drink tea

And although Asajj Ventress is on the cover, she only talks to Pors Tonith twice for only a couple of paragraphs.
Interesting book, but not as good as it had the potential to be. "Jedi Trial" is a deceiving title as it has little to do with it. I expected it to be about the Jedi trials as this is about the time Anakin ascends to a Jedi Knight. If you want an action or war novel, pick this one. If you want a story with a strong plot and good characters, avoid this one.

Anakin earns his Jedi Knight spurs leading the recapture of a planet that has some communications essential to the Republic. And a side story about some people meeting through the battle and falling in love and getting married by Anakin at the end.

This was really dumb. Asajj Ventress is displayed prominently on the cover, but she appears twice or thrice, through a holo-projector, that is it. The side story about the couple is forced and adds nothing to this novel. This wasn't even blase.

I don't understand how this has a 4star rating here. Nothing in this book recommends itself to reading it. Nothing is referenced in later books about this incident. You don't even need to read it to "fill in the gaps" like you do some other Star Wars books.

Skip this book and you'll have saved yourself several hours to read something else a lot more interesting.
