Let me start out by saying I read the original Tarzan when I was a teenager, but you only need to know the myth to read this book.
I loved this book. It starts a little slow, but when it gets into Jane's story, it is a page turner. I finished it in one weekend.
Jane: The Woman Who Loved Tarzan begins in Cambridge, England, 1905. Jane Porter is hardly a typical woman of her time. The only female student in her medical program, she is far more comfortable dissecting corpses than she is sipping afternoon tea. Jane dreams of traveling to prove the truth behind her hero Darwins evolutionary theories.

When dashing explorer Ral Conrath invites Jane to join an expedition deep into West Africa, she can hardly believe her luck. Africa is every bit as exotic as she has always imagined, but Jane quickly learns that the lush jungle is full of secretsand so is Ral Conrath. When danger strikes, Jane finds her hero, the key to humanitys past and the true love of her life in Tarzan of the Apes.
