I don't know why I went so long before reading this book. I don't know what I thought it would be like, but I obviously had some serious misconceptions. Those have since been corrected.
This book is a beautifully written Gothic tale that is part romance, part ghost story, and part social commentary. In the social sense this book was completely ahead of its time. Taken as a whole this book will always remain a truly timeless classic.
Jane Eyre now ranks among my all-time favorites when it comes to the classics. The Count of Monte Cristo now has a worthy companion when it comes to sharing the top spots on my list.

An engaging and highly readable famous classic. My all-time favorite.
Jane Eyre is a wonderful book. I love her use of the English language and the way she develops her characters. Plus, the book seems early on like it will be predictable but I enjoy the twists it takes you on.

A wonderful classic. This is one of my favorite books.
Hmmm ... what can I say? I enjoyed the novel's unconventional love story, and I thought the book was ahead of its time in its portrayal of a strong woman who knows her own mind. But I'm not sure I'll ever read it again. The "good parts" were surrounded by pages and pages of descriptions -- both of the environment and of Jane's inner thoughts -- that I found tedious to read. Anything that could be said in a sentence, Bronte took at least a page or two to describe. And I've never seen an author use so many semicolons in my life!
Of course, I love Jane Eyre! This is one of my favorite genre's, but I have to be in the mood. I love novel's in this era.
This is a book about a strong woman who overcomes her obstacles to achieve. An accurate picture of love in near modern times.
This is second time I have read "Jane Eyre." The Brontes are wonderful talents from an obscure Yorkshire village. Charlotte makes of her Gothic experiences a fascinating novel. It never flags, because Jane controls the reader's response through her first person narrative. A great read.
Classic story and a favorite :)
It's a pretty good classic. Boring at times and hard to struggle through. There are other times where it surprises you as strange. Dark Victorian Goth!!!
