This is a heart-warming collection of stories by the author of "All Creatures Great and Small". It's about people and pets:
About the little dog who pines away after the loss of his best friend, whose life is saved by a puppy;
About a great Boxer whose noxious gas makes him untenable in the home of his highbrow owner- who loves him too much to give him away... and about the surprise solution to the dilemma;
The story of the miraculous recovery a blind boy's guide dog who picks up a poisoned 'treat';
... and many others-
about lap dogs, working dogs, mongrels- and the people who live with them and love them.
This is a worthwhile book if you like to read aloud to your kids..
(and, yes, I have read some of them to my husband!)

Its pretty simple, if you love dogs: then this is a classic must read. Each short story in this book is sweet, heartwarming, and at times heartbreaking. It will remind you of your love for dogs...and why they are man's best friend.

This is a nice compilation of some of the funniest and most poignant of James Herriot's experiences as a veterinarian in England. With vivid description of the lovely country itself, this is a wonderful introduction into the humor and wit of one of the most beloved animal doctors in the world. A great read-aloud.
a charming little book of stories by British vet James Herriot
loved the dog stories. not sure if this is a few stories from another book called dog stories which sounds like a much longer book.
I read a number of Herriot's books long ago, so I remembered some of the stories in this one. And I have to agree that Barbara H.'s review on this book's page is probably about another Herriot anthology of dog stories. Some of the ones she mentions I even remember. But this book only contains the stories listed in the description.
I received this book as a freebie when I requested some other books from a member. I planned to donate it right away to a Little Free Library we maintain at Florida's Dudley Farm Historic State Park. After all, what is a farm without a dog? But I decided I'd read it first and I'm glad I did. And, as of today, there are already two other copies posted for members to request.

Great book for dog lovers. I've read all of his and all are great!
James Herriot at his finest! What a fun book to read and remember all the great stories in his books. The drawings are very nicely done also. Great relaxing read for a spring or summer day!
