Who tells better animal stories than James Herriot? This book is beautifully illustrated in watercolor style on milky white pages so smooth to the touch. Each of these elements makes the books so rich and elegant you can feel confident sitting on your coffee table for all to see. Each stories is as heartwarming as the next. It is hard to believe they are just that....stories. Each little face and name invokes a memory of one of my beloved pets. I hope it will bring great memories for other readers.

Although the stories themselves are wonderful, I think the best part about this book is its illustrations!

Gosh, who hasn't reaad James Herriot and laughed and cried. I love this book (just like I love my own cats), because it is small enough to carry around.

A nice book, but nothing other than the introduction isn't included in his main volumes. If you're a cat lover and want these stories set aside, by all means go ahead. With Herriot you know exactly what you're getting, and if you read him at all you enjoy it, as I do.
For my money, though, the better volumes are the original series in which these stories can be found. There's more there, and it is possible to develop a better sense of his environment and life in the original books.

Herriot is the best at what he does. Another treasure.
