In addition to information sources, the authors describe international business organisations, relevant political departments and agencies, business practices in various regions and countries, the basics of international trade and finance, finding information on non-US companies, and marketing products and collecting statistics outside the US. The book is designed for American researchers who need to know the precise international business sources for their particular purpose. Each of the 16 chapters opens with an outline of major topics and a listing of important sources discussed. Chapter topics include: accounting standards and practices; company information - issues and directory, financial and electronic sources; corporate affiliations and corporate change; special topics such as credit information and rankings; international marketing, such as issues and services research; advertising and direct marketing; exporting; economics; industries; international trade and payments; and financial markets. The chapters are grouped under the general headings of introduction, company information, marketing, industrial and economic statistics, and international transactions. Contents also include several appendices and title and subject indices. Extensive use is made of exhibits, usually reproductions of print pages or database records, and of tables, ranging from comparisons of features among similar sources to lists of countries using common or Roman law. Significant sources are highlighted with the title, publisher and frequency set in boldface as a special heading-level above the descriptive paragraphs. This edition of "International Business Information" is modelled on the second editon of Michael R. Lavin's award-winning work of the same name, also published by Oryx Press. Lavin's book won the 1992 Business Reference Services Section/Gale Research Award for Excellence in Business Librarianship.
