"Come along, Frankie," said his father, "It is time to go aboard." This is the first line of this story and I thought, 'No, no, don't go!'
My copy (obtained from the 'free' book truck at the branch library when I dropped off three travel videos circa 1988 that nevertheless had vanished when I left an hour later) was from the third printing so apparently this sold fairly well. The views of the quarters and cabins, common areas such as dining rooms, and the working areas of the ship are excellent because several small photos accompany the paintings with cutaways showing the interior. This informative book ends with a timeline and the fate of a couple of the 'protagonists.' The story is suitable for middle elementary grades, not the cited ages 4-8, although younger readers with high interest of course will puzzle it out even when above their reading level and older readers will find the profuse illustrations very interesting. There is a glossary on the very last page.
This book is a Canadian production, but printed in Italy; however my copy was well made.
