I enjoyed this book a great deal--the author Robert A. Johnson has a fine intellect, a much-appreciated sense of humility, and a gift for succinct explanation of complex procedures. However, I believe that Johnson's approach to dream work might be a little ham-fisted and even counter-productive at times; it's just my opinion but sometimes I think it's okay to simply "sit" with a dream instead of taking a heavy-duty, analytical hammer to it every single time. (Other writers on dreams, for instance the venerable James Hillman, contend that a Robert Johnson-type approach to dream analysis can actually be damaging to the psyche.) Still, Johnson has long been considered an authority on the interplay between our conscious and unconscious selves and on the practice of Active Imagination (to which in this book he contributes his own four-step approach) and this title is surely considered a classic in the field. A number of case studies presented.

I took a class on Dreamwork and this was the required text. I found it interesting and informative. Not too hard to read or understand. this book is all about four different ways to bring your concious and subconscious selves together.
