What can I say? So enjoy Barker and Lenox novels that I must pick one up and read it every once in a while. This one finds Lenox responding to a request for help from an old Harrow schoolmate. When Lenox gets around to doing so he finds that his friend has disappeared. Adding to the mystery is the fact that his friend received a bequest from an unknown individual. The same occurred years earlier. Is the second bequest from the same individual? Lenox finds himself searching for the responsible individual.
Finch has created wonderful characters that readers like me keep turning to again and again. The fascinating details of Victorian life can be seen through characters like Lenox himself, Dallington, McConnell. In this novel we realize that Lenox has reached middle age and the private inquiry business is busy. The story is complex and it takes a great deal of investigation to find the answers and his missing friend.
Yes, this is another outstanding effort by the author who puts his characters through their paces to solve yet another myster. I enjoyed this read very much.
