I found this book to be an excellent introduction to the Red Dwarf world. definitely read this one before you read any of the other Red Dwarf books available. This book is also great for fans and casual fans of the sci-fi series. Very funny stuff, great writing.

This was a fairly quick read and a lot of the material is the same as the series. I was dissapointed with this book though because they changed things from the series. I think it could have been written better to add to the series rather than attempt to make them different.

Well as many mentioned, it's not a "Hitch Hikers Guide.." but it does take place in space.. I'm not sure I'd read another in the series...

I've never seen the show, but the book was very, very funny from the first line. It didn't quite have Douglas Adams charm, but was just as sarcastic. The main character, Lister, wakes up to find he's on one of Saturn's moons after getting drunk on a pub crawl through London. He joins the Space Corps hoping to find a way back home and soon finds himself aboard the giant spaceship Red Dwarf. With plenty of sci-fi references, a hologram and highly-evolved cat for crew-mates and a computer that's losing its memory, this was a very fun read. If you're looking for something light to laugh at and you enjoy afternoons watching your Star Trek DVD collection, I'd say this is worth giving a shot.
